In my cucumber lime agua fresca you’ll find traditional ingredients that will help keep you hydrated during the hotter months. It’s more hydrating and healthier than ordinary water thanks to nourishing ingredients like cucumber and chia seeds.

This cucumber lime agua fresca makes the most refreshing and hydrating drink!

Hydrating Cucumber Chia Agua Fresca

Staying hydrated is the first step towards a natural detox. During the summer we lose large amounts of water through sweating and we need to pay more attention to proper hydration. Everything that includes water counts: – smoothies, fresh juices, fresh salads, water, and herbal teas, –but when I really want to give myself a hydrating treat I make this Mexican-inspired drink.

Some of you will be intrigued by drinking jelly-like seeds like chia, but you will love the benefits of this hydrating detox drink. The original recipe only uses plain water, chia seeds, and lime juice, but I wanted to take it to the next hydrating level and added cucumber juice for extra minerals to produce a vitamin-loaded water.

Chia seeds are a usual ingredient in my kitchen because of their amazing detox properties. They have the ability to absorb up to 10 times their weight in water, making it a great ingredient to use for staying hydrated. Here are some of other health benefits of chia seeds:

With nearly five grams in a one ounce serving, chia seeds are an excellent source of the plant-based omega-3. Our body needs essential fatty acids from our diet because it can’t produce on its own, and uses these for maintaining a healthy liver function and balancing the production of cholesterol.

Chia seeds contain high amounts of soluble fiber, helping the natural detox functions of the body. Once they arrive in the digestive system they turn into a gelatinous mixture that absorbs toxins, cholesterol and excess estrogen from the colon, flushing them out and preventing them from leaking back into our blood stream.

The nutritional value of chia seeds indicates a wide array of minerals, including magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, and calcium, but also protein and antioxidants, making them the perfect ingredient to fuel you up during a detox diet.

This Mexican drink will not only keep you hydrated, but also give you energy and keep you satiated, providing tryptophan, an amino-acid which regulates appetite and balances your mood. Cucumber will add not only add a fresh taste, but also a lovely green color along with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support.

Basically, if you’re feeling run down, overworked, or you pushed yourself too hard during a workout, you can have this drink and get back to normal more quickly. With the long hours of summer it can often happen that you run out of gas before the day is over and you run the risk on missing out on all the fun. Part of the process is staying hydrated and making sure your body has enough water, nutrients, and minerals to make it through the day with enough energy and vigor to have the best time possible.
