Liver Detox Green Juices (3 Ways)
Every time I feel tired, without energy, or anxious I know my liver needs a detox. Heavy foods, lack of sleep, and stress are the main enemies of the liver, and the right way to put it back on track is a quick detox.
If you don’t have enough time to follow a complete detox, than fresh juices can still be of tremendous benefit. They are loaded with enzymes and nutrients that nourish your body’s cells and help your liver detox.
I always go green when I plan a quick detox. Green ingredients like fresh vegetables (cucumber, celery stalk, fennel, zucchini), dark leafy greens and algae are loaded with chlorophyll which purify the body on a cellular level with oxygen and also with powerful antioxidants to help the liver when metabolizing free radicals.
Here are my favorite green detox ingredients and their amazing properties:
Cucumber – has high amounts of water which make it a natural diuretic, helping to cleanse your liver. It also contains anti-inflammatory compounds and antioxidants including Vitamin C, manganese and beta-Carotene.
Celery Stalk – contains both antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients, but also vitamins and minerals to help your cells stay healthy and produce energy.
Parsley – loaded with Vitamin C which acts like an antioxidant, and also contains Vitamin K, responsible for energy production in our cells. The volatile oils in parsley help the liver neutralize particular types of carcinogens.
Spinach – contains phytonutrients with anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer benefits. Along with spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, mustard, and turnip greens, collards and kale all fall under the cruciferous vegetable family. Spinach makes a great addition to your juices and smoothies. It’s loaded with powerful antioxidants and chlorophyll.
Combine these with other liver detoxifying ingredients like lemons which are full of Vitamin C, and fennel which contains a unique phytonutrient called anethole. This is a powerful anti-inflammatory compound and reduces the recurrence of cancer.
Algae like spirulina and chlorella also make a good choice for adding to your juice. Both of these are superfoods containing a wide array of vitamins, minerals, protein, essential fatty acids and large amounts of chlorophyll, essential for restoring your liver health. These algae bind with heavy metals accumulated in the body and help flush them out for good.
