Did you know that your tap water may be contaminated with chlorine, dioxins, arsenic, mercury, and even pharmaceutical drugs? There are more than 80 regulated contaminants in our tap water and some are not even regulated, like perchlorate. Oh, you’ve never heard of perchlorate before? That’s because it’s otherwise known as rocket fuel. That’s right. Your tap water may contain rocket fuel. Yuck, right?
Aside from removing these poisonous chemicals from your water, alkaline water is great for restoring alkalinity in the body. To break it down for you real quick, acidity or acidosis is the buildup of free radical toxins in the body. When too many of them accumulate in the body, we are at an increased risk of chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, autoimmunity, obesity, etc. But toxins and disease cannot thrive in an alkaline environment. So the best place to start is with your diet and water.
Maintaining an alkaline environment inside your body is the first step towards a healthier you. While there’s a whole plethora of alkalizing veggies and fruits, take a minute to also consider the water you drink every day. Because tap water is treated with substances that influence its pH level, sometimes it’s a good idea to balance things out by making your own alkaline water.
Bicarbonate, lemon, and salt are the key ingredients that turn any water into an alkalizing one.
Your body does a great job maintaining an alkaline environment within your cells. But different chemicals and preservatives added to your cosmetics and home cleaning products, along with pollution, stress, lack of sleep, a diet poor, and smoking can all perturb its activity. A low alkaline cell environment can weaken your immune system activity and chronic disease can occur. Every now and then, consider having DIY alkaline water throughout the day to recalibrate your body’s pH.
Alkaline water may not be something you drink every day, but only from time to time when you want to help your body reduce acidity and balance pH levels, consider grabbing a glass of this stuff. An acid environment can lead to chronic disease and this is why a diet consisting of alkaline fruits and vegetables, combined with quality alkaline water have positive effects on your health. Check out some important health factors you can benefit by drinking alkaline water.
1. Gut Check
Alkaline water has disinfectant properties, protecting your digestive system from unwanted microorganisms that might interfere with the good bacteria colonies in your gut. And since 70 percent of your immune system resides in your gut, you want to keep this part of your body happy.
2. Reduces the risk of diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease
By lowering the glycation levels and the liver damage, you can help protect against your risk of diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.
3. Promotes a better recovery after intense exercise
With its high mineral input, alkaline water reduces the blood lactate response and cardio-respiratory stress that results after intense exercise. You also get the added benefit of recovering quicker to make you stronger and better prepared for your next hardcore workout.
4. Improve your quality of life
If you suffer from headaches, bad breath or even insomnia, you may have too many acids built up in your body. Being sick all the time or feeling tired constantly is another good indication. Alkaline water provides alkaline elements that bind to free radicals and moves them out of the body so you start to feel better all day long.
5. Improve skeletal health
When your body is lacking in alkaline minerals, especially calcium, it pulls your storage levels from your bones. This can increase your risk of fractures, osteoporosis, and all sorts of achy pains.
High alkaline water is not always a good idea, especially if you suffer from a kidney issue. The excess minerals that turn the water alkalinizing, such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, can be difficult to eliminate via the urine and start accumulating in your body. But whenever you feel like a reboot, offer your body a full day with alkaline water to help it regain the pH balance and eliminate acidity. Consider this recipe your new hangover cure, your post workout recovery fuel, or your mid-day migraine relief.
