Chocolate Superfood Granola Bars
Perfect before your workout for a quick energy boost, or just the right portion for a cleansing breakfast on the run, these superfood granola bars make the perfect cleansing choice for snacking or a quick meal.
I always make these in batches and keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator to have them on hand anytime. Vegan chocolate is a great addition, not only for its delicious taste, but for the antioxidant kick and mood boosting effect.
The base for making these bars is oats and nuts. I like to alternate seeds and nuts to give my body a variety of nutrients, but the main benefits remain the same: cleansing fiber from oats, as well as healthy monounsaturated fat, minerals, and protein from seeds and nuts. Almonds are definitely my favorite, and I always add them crushed up and buttered.
Oats contain high concentrations of dietary soluble fiber with benefits like lowered cholesterol, reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and reduced risk of breast and colon cancer. Soluble fiber absorbs excess cholesterol, excess estrogen, and toxins and flushes them from your system. Oats also contain unique antioxidants which reduce the free radical damage done to DNA.
I love chocolate, and I add it to many of my dishes, especially to raw desserts and breakfast. I do it guilt-free because I only use home-made chocolate sauce with whole ingredients. Raw cacao is a superfood loaded with antioxidants and essential minerals such as magnesium, not only contributing to boosting your mood, but also supporting the natural detox process of your cells.
I make my chocolate sauce using raw cacao powder, coconut oil, and almond milk, creating a delicious and nutritious chocolate without any added preservatives. This creates a chocolate that is very different from the kinds you see sold in stores, which allows you to enjoy these bars as part of a detox plan.
