Minty Berry Antioxidant Sorbet (With No Added Sweeteners)
Get into the sorbet habit this summer and you’ll be glad you did. My minty berry sorbet is the perfect detox dessert when the weather gets warm, and is made with seasonal ingredients.
Summer is just around the corner, and soon the colorful fruits and aromatic herbs will load the farmer’s market tables. I love summer, not only for the amazing weather but mostly for the bountiful harvest of fresh fruits and vegetables. This is when my body feels great and energized to the max.
Doing a detox during the summer is the easiest thing to do, you only have to wake up, drink loads of water, pick out seasonal fresh fruits and veggies and eat them raw, simple as that. Turn them into salads, smoothies, juices or make your own sorbet at home.
Of all the summer fruits, berries are my favorite. Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, all have interesting textures, delicious flavors, and sweet and sour tastes. I love them all! And when it comes to nutrition, they are virtual storehouses of antioxidants, nourishing your body’s cells and helping your liver detoxify and eliminate all the waste we accumulate during the long winter months.
I used to like rich, dense, nutty-flavored ice creams, but ever since I discovered how easy it is to make fruit sorbet at home, I just can’t stop having it. All you need is to pick your favorite ripe berries and fresh herbs from the farmer’s market, freeze them, and then turn them into a delicious summer treat that nourishes your body and puts a smile on your face every time.
With sorbets I like to play around with different flavors, but I always return to my favorite one: peppermint. The cooling flavor of this tasty herb not only turns any dish into something exquisite, but also adds nutritional and detox support to summer sorbets.
Peppermint is a valuable source of manganese and vitamin C, and also contains antioxidant compounds with neutralizing effects on free radicals, producing anti-inflammatory properties. Its essential oils have antibacterial and antimicrobial actions, cleansing your digestive system and helping it restore an alkaline environment.
Combining the cool flavor and benefits of peppermint with the exceptional antioxidant properties of berries of all kinds will turn your summer sorbets into real healing and detox desserts.
