Every time my energy is low, or I feel my liver is overtaxed, or I’m in a bad mood, I make my favorite broth to give myself a boost. This spicy, orange-colored, and warming broth is loaded with minerals and anti-inflammatory nutrients which can heal digestive issues, calm pain, boost your mood, and fire-up your metabolism.
If you ever thought that turmeric is overrated these days on various food blogs, health magazines, or daytime health shows, this broth will prove that it lives up to the hype.
Turmeric and ginger are never missing from my kitchen because I know that I can rely on their healing powers every time I feel spent. Their pungent flavors can take a little getting used to, but now my body craves them because together they make magic every single time I sip on this broth. I add turmeric in almost all my meals: smoothies, stews, energy bars, and I really love the flavor and the healing properties it gives to a homemade broth.
I gave up buying boullion and stock cubes from the supermarket quite long ago because there is nothing more comforting than making your own soup at home, and knowing exactly what you put inside. Supermarket soup stocks are most often loaded with salt to give it taste, which will have a negative impact on the health of your cells.
Our body is programmed to maintain consistent sodium levels to support the metabolic processes and energy production. Cells consume potassium reserves to eliminate excess sodium, otherwise this will lead to their fermentation and chronic disease will set in. A clean diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables provides the right quantity of potassium to maintain a balance between sodium and potassium. Always check nutrition labels on packaged foods, because most often they contain large quantities of sodium.
You can make this turmeric broth in bulk and freeze it is a life saver when it comes to making rice or soups without the need to make the stock. I like to prepare it and sip it warm, like tea, but I always have it in my freezer, just in case I run out of time when preparing healthy detox soups and stews at home.

- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 inch ginger piece, diced
- 1 bunch fresh parsley, whole
- 1 parsnip, peeled
- 1 carrot, peeled
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tsp turmeric powder
- A pinch cayenne pepper
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- 4 cups purified water
- Add all the vegetables into a soup pan and cover with purified water.
- Bring to boil over medium heat, then turn the heat down and simmer for 45 minutes.
- Add the turmeric and mix to incorporate.
- Strain the liquid to remove the vegetables (you can serve them as a salad, with fresh garlic, olive oil and lemon to get the benefit from their fiber).
- Add the salt, black pepper and cayenne and mix to incorporate.
- Serve warm or freeze for later.
