One the best things about detox smoothies is that they’re almost infinitely versatile. You can create new combos of fruits, vegetables and superfoods so they taste great and address specific wellness issues. Plus, they’re super easy to make.
That’s why colon detox smoothies are a no-brainer when it comes to doing the right thing for your body. Take this smoothie, for instance, which is filled with ingredients designed to help keep your digestive system happy and healthy.
Colon Detox Smoothie – The Ingredients
Green apples are a “go-to” detox fruit.
Why? Because they have a soothing and anti-inflammatory effect on your digestive system and intestines, helping to flush toxins. Plus they’re high in fiber – important for smooth digestion – especially when you keep the peel on for its high antioxidant and pectin content (1) .
Green apples help reduce your risk of colon cancer, plus they boost your metabolism, strengthen your bone health, lower your bad cholesterol, and care for your heart health (2).
This adds up to a boost for your immune system, as green apples add their wide variety of vitamins and minerals to your body.
The old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” is especially true for this recipe to support your colon health.
Cucumbers are made up of more than 90 percent water. That means they’re great for hydrating your body, cooling and soothing your digestive system. They also bring incredible anti-cancer properties (3).
Cucumbers also contain plenty of electrolytes to battle inflammation and keep your body’s fluids in balance. They also are a great tonic for your skin, hair and nails.
As with the green apple, it’s best to keep the peel on the cucumber for additional fiber and nutrients.

When it comes to detoxing, cleansing and taking care of your colon, chia seeds are help with hydration, they’re rich in omega-3 fatty acids which reduce your risk of colon cancer, and they’re a quality fiber helping to stimulate your bowel (4).

- 1 green apple, cut into cubes
- 1 small cucumber, cut into chunks
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp matcha powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp ground flaxseed
- 1 lime, juice only
- 1 cup coconut water
- Add all the ingredients into the blender and mix to obtain a smooth, creamy liquid.
- Drink immediately.
